IELTS Preparation
IELTS is an assessment of English ability. Preparing for it requires both English language development and an understanding of the test. At Skill Square, we build both — based on your starting point and your requirements.
IELTS Preparation
It requires the ability to understand, express, analyse and communicate effectively in English — under examination conditions.
At Skill Square, IELTS preparation connects English language development with IELTS task performance. The objective is not merely to teach IELTS tricks, templates or exam strategies. It is to help learners understand English, develop the required language skills, practise using those skills, perform under IELTS conditions, receive feedback, identify gaps, strengthen them and progress.
We do not assume every IELTS learner needs the same programme.
Before Preparation Begins
We begin by understanding the learner and then determine what the learner needs.
Before deciding what a learner needs, we first need to understand the learner's current English language proficiency.
Learners come with different:
Some learners may have reasonable overall English but struggle particularly with Speaking. Others may need to strengthen grammar, vocabulary, Reading, Writing, Listening, Speaking or overall language foundations before intensive IELTS preparation becomes effective.
The Learning Process
IELTS preparation at Skill Square follows a clear, purposeful learning pathway.
Understand your current proficiency and identify what needs to be developed.
Build the necessary English language and IELTS skills.
Practise purposefully with guidance and feedback.
Review performance, identify gaps and strengthen them.
Perform effectively under IELTS conditions.
The Four Skills
Each skill is developed first as a language ability, then practised through relevant IELTS task formats.
Develop the ability to understand spoken English, identify important information, follow meaning and respond appropriately to different listening tasks.
Develop comprehension, vocabulary awareness, information processing and the ability to work effectively with different types of texts.
Develop organisation, clarity, grammatical accuracy, vocabulary and the ability to communicate ideas effectively within the task.
Develop fluency, pronunciation, vocabulary, grammatical range and the ability to communicate ideas clearly and appropriately.
Academic and General Training
The purpose of the test influences the preparation pathway.
For learners applying to universities, professional registration or academic programmes. The pathway focuses on the academic language and task types required for higher education contexts.
For learners applying for immigration, work or training programmes. The pathway focuses on the language and task types relevant to workplace and everyday communication.
Good preparation develops both. IELTS preparation is not simply about completing more practice tests. It is about becoming capable of performing effectively in English — and then learning how to demonstrate that ability in the test.
Different learners may need different pathways. We first understand the learner. Then we decide what needs to be developed.
